Customize the UI
Developers have two options regarding the web user interface of their app:
- Either leverage the P6 Portal UI, giving end users access to pages like Home, Transactions, Workflow Tasks, Reports, User Administration - and (if applicable) to additional menus and pages thanks to custom services.
- Or create their own application web user interface, with their specific design (look & feel, colors, logo, icons…) leveraging API calls to P6 services
Customize the P6 Portal UI¶
The P6 Portal user interface can be customized in various ways thanks to services like Home pages, Views and Scripts.
Home page¶
Providing a custom home page is a very simple way to customize the UI. You can create as many pages as you want, each page potentially combining a set of frames, counters and reports.
Transactions pages¶
Thanks to the Views service, it is easy to specify :
- The search criteria to be displayed on the search panel
- The columns that will show on the list of results
Display of Transactions¶
Transactions items are XML files carrying metadata information. If you open a transactions (either double-clicking on it or hitting the pen icon), you have access to that information. And as reading an XML file is not the best experience you can propose to your app users, you may want to provide a nice display of the metadata. That can be done thanks to a script that will transform the XML into a nice HTML display.
Create a custom UI¶
Creating a custom UI will require more work but it may be worth the effort depending on the use case or the targeted sector or industry.
The fact that all Platform 6 service are exposed via a REST API makes it as easy and convenient as possible.
You can download the OpenAPI-compliant P6 API specification file from your Platform 6 instance from http://YourInstanceURL/p6/openapi. Then you can open it in Swagger Editor (File / Import file) or with the Postman app.
